Feeding Guide

What, Why, How Much?

What We Feed Our Maine Coons

Our Maine Coon cats and kittens are brought up on a mixture of Akela 90:10 grain-free complete dry food, Akela 70:30 grain-free complete wet food and whole prey, day old chicks! After years of researching and trying numerous different brands, Akela is a firm favourite to all our felines and canine - no more fussy pets! We believe Akela cat food offers the very best quality for our beloved felines. The dry food contains 90% fresh meat and 10% botanicals  and the wet food contains 70% fresh meat and 30% fruit and vegetables - that's it! No grains, no carbs, no fillers. We love it!!

You will receive a bag of their usual biscuits and tins of their favourite wet food. You can either continue with this food (and receive 5% off your first Akela order using my unique referral code), or you can transition them onto an alternative food of your choice - just make sure to transition gradually to avoid upset tummies!

Why We Feed Akela

Wholeprey is the concept of feeding cats and dogs as close a diet as possible to that which their ancestors would have eaten. This includes, but is not limited to, meat, liver, cartilage, fat and edible bone. Some people choose to feed their pets a raw diet of muscle meat, bone and offal. However for others, the storage, preparation and concerns about the presence of bacteria, can be a turn-off.  Cats especially, can be rather fussy about the various textures or flavours that raw food offers. Some of our cats at Coon Cubs Nursery in particular, only like the chunky stuff, some will only eat red meats, others only white. When you have multiple pets as we do, providing so many different varieties of foods can become quite a hassle! Akela is the ONLY food (believe me when I say, we have tried everything!) that all of our animals thoroughly enjoy and thrive on. We are incredibly grateful to have found a quality food that everyone devours - it has made feeding so simple!

Akela 90:10 kibble and 70:30 tinned wet food, provides as close to a wholeprey diet, in convenient kibble and wet form. Since feeding Akela, we have noticed a vast improvement in overall health, hairballs, coat, digestion, hunger satisfaction and poop!
