Akela WholePrey believes that all dogs and cats deserve optimum nutrition.
Over millions of years, the canine and feline species has evolved to hunt and eat prey. With sharp canine teeth, high-frequency hearing and a short digestive tract, modern dogs share over 98% of their DNA with their wolf ancestors and modern cats have almost identical DNA to the African wildcat. Akela have tailored their recipes to feed our packs.
Akela offer bespoke recipes in frozen raw, dry kibble, cold-pressed, wet tinned flavours and healthy natural treats. All 100% grain-free, hypoallergenic and proudly made in Great Britain (wet food made in Germany).
Wholeprey Ingredients
Wholeprey is the concept of feeding cats and dogs as close a diet as possible to that which their wild ancestors would have eaten. This includes, but is not limited to, meat, liver, cartilage, fat and edible bone.
The livestock are raised for human consumption, then the cuts of meat that are desirable within the human food chain are removed and the remaining carcass and organ materials are what are predominantly used in Akela's food. These are nutritious and palatable materials that animals would naturally eat. Due to excess supply Akela often use the cuts of meat that are desirable for humans too e.g. on a recent factory tour the batch of chicken being used was originally destined for Marks & Spencer but they had over-supply so it was used in Akela's food instead.
